The SADC Council of NGOs represents national civil society umbrella
bodies in the SADC region and has a Secretariat in Gaborone, Botswana. In
partnership with other non state actors like Trade Unions and Churches, SADC
Council of NGOs has been holding Civil Society Fora in various SADC
countries.

The annual Civil Society Forum is a key strategic forum aimed at an
effective input into the SADC Heads of State Summit. To date, five civil
society fora have been held annually. Gaborone (2005), Maseru (2006), Lusaka
(2007), Johannesburg (2008) and Kinshasa (2009).

As the SADC Heads of State will be meeting in Windhoek, Namibia in August 2010, the ordinary peoples of Southern Africa will also converge at the Catholic Cathedral Hall in Windhoek on the
15th – 16th of August 2010 under the auspices of the Southern Africa Peoples’ Solidarity Network (SAPSN).

Declaration of the SADC Local Government Minister's Meeting

The SADC ministers responsible for local government held a meeting Sheraton Hotel, Pretoria, South Africa on the 29th of April 2010 from which a declaration was issued.

The declaration reaffirms SADC ministers' commitment to strengthening local government in the region as well as on the continent and, in this regard, within the framework and Spirit of African Union principles.
